Respect in Sport for Parents
SSA is proud to offer a Respect in Sport (RiS) for Parents platform uniquely specific to Saskatchewan Soccer members. The cost is $12 per user, and if Member Organizations choose they can setup a prepaid code for their members.
One of the most commonly reported reasons coaches, managers, officials and athletes of all ages cite for leaving sport is unacceptable parent behaviour. The Respect in Sport Parent Program will help define a standard of behaviour for all parents and guardians and create a more rewarding, safe and respectful environment for everyone involved. Research shows that parents and guardians want to do a great job supporting their kids, but are sometimes unsure how, and Respect in Sport for Parents provides the tools to do just that!
This program compliments the existing Activity Leader and Coach Program by reinforcing a parent and guardian's role in their child's activities. It empowers parents and guardians to:
Ensure the safety and well-being of their children |
Encourage proper communication with officials and coaches |
Make sport and recreation result in a positive experience for all |
SSA Member Organizations may choose to offer this service as an added benefit to their membership or to write their own policy indicating membership requirements.
"You know, I did not want to take the Respect in Sport class, as you think it is going to be boring and a waste of time. But I have to admit when I am wrong, as I actually took quite a lot out of it. My wife was taking it with me and she kept pointing at me saying, 'yes, that is you' and I had to admit it was, even though I do not perceive myself to be one of those problem parents. It definitely helped me put things in perspective and ground myself in a proper way. I thought the one quote was perfect... the game tonight is the most important thing in the world right now and it does not matter at all! As a parent with two boys playing hockey, thank you for the program; it was very much worthwhile" Hockey Parent Testimonial
