Coach Education Program

Canada Soccer’s Coach Education Program consists of the Grassroots Coach Education Program that certifies coaches as having completed the age and stage training appropriate for the players they’re working with and the Canada Soccer Advanced Coach Education Program that provides coaches with the Canada Soccer Children’s, Youth, C, B, and A Licence award at the completion of their training.

Canada Soccer GRASSROOTS Coach Education Program

Saskatchewan Soccer is pleased to offer coach training for aspiring coaches across the province. In conjunction with Canada Soccer, we have made coach education more accessible by moving to a blended learning format allowing coaches to complete the theoretical part of the course online (PART1) and the on-field component (PART 2) by attending an in person practical workshop.

In addition, Canada Soccer has launched an online learning management system to lower the barrier to access for grassroots volunteer, parent, and guardian coaches (see article). The new coach education platform allows coaches anywhere to complete the theory component of the Active Start, FUNdamentals, Learn to Train and Soccer for Life courses online.

Canada Soccer has also added a new core component of the Grassroots Coach Education Program - Coaching Soccer in Canada, which has streamlined duplicate information from each of the courses into one simple module.

Register for a Workshop

Coaches who are interested in taking the new grassroots coach education program, can purchase their own courses online or clubs can purchase access keycodes for their coaches. Canada Soccer ADVANCED Coaching Program

The Canada Soccer Advanced Education Program is aimed at those who are more serious about their coaching development and requires coaches reach a minimum standard of competence in a practical coaching environment. This process begins with the C-Licence, which is delivered by Saskatchewan Soccer. From there, coaches who have completed their C-Licence certification may enter into Development Stream (Children), Development Stream (Youth) or Performance Stream (Senior) all of which are delivered by Canada Soccer.

Please note:
Each of the workshops within Canada Soccer's Advanced Coach Education Program is built with an emphasis placed on the practical application of certain coaching skills, also known as 'competencies'. These competencies are expanded upon as the coach progresses through the program and will range from showing an understanding of the rules of small-sided-soccer to running an effective practice with players in a high performance environment.
